Vain Death
You cannot fool me, Death, with your façade
Of mystic power and stern finality!.
Others you may, perhaps, through grief delude:
For, in distraction, reason’s clarity
Can be confused.
This much I surely know:
When your sly fingers steal my latest breath
I’ll slumber briefly then, refreshed, will go
Onward, in faith and everlasting health,
To live a life not fraught with cankering care,
Where love and peace abound on every side.
So do not try to bluff me with your air
Of strength omnipotent!. For you just guide
Me from the troubles of this humble state
Up to a realm where joys eternal wait!.
